Once you open or create a model in this release of Autodesk Infrastructure Modeler, that model will fully support the new feature set. For example, it will support the new database schema and style definitions. However, you will no longer be able to open that model in previous versions. You can make a copy of a model before opening it. The copy will preserve the original model so it can be opened in previous versions.

    1. On the Start page that displays when you start the program, do one of the following:
      • Click New.
      • Click File File:Infrastructure_Modeler/enu/2013/Help/0031-User_s_G31/0055-Procedur55/0056-Work_wit56/0057-To_creat57/ac.menuaro.gif New.
      • Press Ctrl + N.
    2. In the New Model dialog box, set the following:
      • Location — specify the location of the Model folder. This folder contains the model database (*.sqlite) and its associated data folder. You can manually type the path or click the Browse button to select the location.
      • Name — specify a name for your model. This is the name that is assigned to the model database file and data folder. The name also appears when you access the properties of an open model.
      • Description — specify a description for your model. While the description is an optional setting, it is useful for others who may be working with you. The description also appears when you access the properties of an open model.
      • Schema Template File — specify the location of the schema template file (*.xst) to use with your model. Schema templates allow you to set up custom classes, attributes, and categories when a model is first created. Schema template files drive the scripting behaviors and stylization based on GIS attributes for analysis, thematics, calculations, etc.

You can use the default schema, manually type the path to a schema, or click the Browse button to select the location of the schema templates.

      • Coordinate System — specify the coordinate system for the model. If known, you can manually enter the coordinate system. Otherwise, click and choose the coordinate system from the extended list of categories and codes.

TipIf you previously specified a coordinate system for another model, it is listed in the drop-down list ( ) for quick entry.
      • Define Extents — Select this to specify a smaller area when dealing with very large model data extents.
        • Minimum X — specify the minimum X coordinate to set the lower left corner of the model extents.
        • Minimum Y — specify the minimum Y coordinate to set the lower right corner of the model extents.
        • Maximum X — specify the maximum X coordinate to set the upper left corner of the model extents.
        • Maximum Y — specify the maximum Y coordinate to set the upper right corner of the model extents.
        • Load Extents From File — select an extent file that contains minimum X,Y and maximum X,Y coordinates.
    3. Click OK.

A new model using the specified name is created. Its database file and data folder are placed in the location you indicated and you can now start building your model.
