Shrinkwrap Assemblies

    Table of contents
    No headers

Shrinkwrap create a single part from an assembly, using the derived component function in the background. Shrinkwrap can use existing design view or Level of Detail representations for maximum efficiency. Only components visible in the graphics are included in a shrinkwrap part.

You can include one or multiple assemblies in a shrinkwrap task, and schedule it to perform at a convenient time. Then you can open your assemblies later using the shrinkwrap substitute levels of detail.

If a shrinkwrap operation fails, the process skips the shrinkwrap for that assembly and starts the next shrinkwrap. Information about the failure is recorded in the log file.

    Procedures:

    Shrinkwrap Assemblies

Set up this task to include one or multiple shrinkwraps.

    1. icon_iconshrinkwrap.pngIn the Autodesk Inventor Task Scheduler window, click Shrinkwrap Assemblies.

The information in the task list switches accordingly, and shows any sequential tasks you saved previously.

    2. In the Autodesk Inventor Task Scheduler window, right-click and select Create Task ac.menuaro.gif Shrinkwrap Assemblies.
    3. In the Shrinkwrap Assemblies dialog box, Task pane, click Add Project to specify and Autodesk Inventor project, if applicable.

Click Add Files or Add Folder, to specify the files and folders to include in the task.

If you select Add Folder, to include subfolders, click the corresponding level of the Recursive column.

In the Output File Name column, the default name displays (<assembly name>_shrinkwrap). You cannot change the output file name from within this dialog box.

If necessary, repeat the steps to add more files and folders.

    4. In the Task Properties box, enter a task name and a time-out threshold.
    5. Specify a schedule, or select the Immediately option.
    6. In Log File, leave the check box selected for the default, or
      • Enter an existing folder and a file name to overwrite the default. If the log file does not exist, it is created.
      • Click Browse to find and select an existing file.
      • To specify no log file, clear the check box.
    7. Select an assembly file row, and then click Options.
    8. In the Shrinkwrap Options dialog, select the appropriate settings and click OK.
    9. Repeat the steps to set options for each assembly file listed.

If you do not set the options, a default set of options is used, including:

If this task is your first during the current session, the Authentication dialog box displays. Enter your Microsoft Windows log in name and password.

A new shrinkwrap task is created. The shrinkwrap task executes according to the schedule you set.

In the Task Scheduler window, task type list, verify that the Shrinkwrap Assemblies is selected. The new shrinkwrap task is listed in the task list.

    Style
icon_deriv_single_solid_no_seam.pngSingle solid body merging out seams between planar faces

Produces a single solid body part without seams between planar faces. When you merge seams between faces, the face assumes a single color.

icon_deriv_single_solid_keep_seam.pngSolid body keep seams between planar faces

Produces a single solid body part with seams retained between planar faces.

    icon_deriv_solid_solid.png

Maintain each solid as a solid body

Creates separate solid bodies in the Shrinkwrap part that correspond to every individual part in the source assembly. For example, an assembly with five parts creates a part with five solid bodies.

    icon_deriv_single_surf.png

    Single composite feature

Produces a single surface composite feature. Retains colors and seams of the original components. Caches and retains the mass properties of the original assembly. Selected by default. Creates the smallest file on disk.

    Remove Internal Components

Includes only external components in the shrinkwrap output. Selected by default.

    Patch all holes

Removes all holes that do not cross surface boundaries, regardless of whether the holes are round. Selected by default.

    Include visible work geometry

Removes geometry that is not visible. Selected by default.

Create Substitute Level of Detail using Shrinkwrap

Creates a level of detail representation to substitute for the assembly. Selected by default

    Source Representations

Specifies the source to use for the shrinkwrap part.

    Level of Detail:

Master Uses the master level of detail. It includes all components in the assembly in the shrinkwrap part.

Last Active Uses the level of detail that was last activated in the assembly. Any components suppressed in that level of detail are not included in the shrinkwrap part.

    View Representation:

Master Uses the master view representation. All components are visible in the master view representation: therefore, all components are included in the shrinkwrap part.

Last Active Uses the view representation that was last activated in the assembly. Any components that are not visible in that view representation are not included in the shrinkwrap part.

    Log files

Log files save the task processing information so you can understand how the task progressed.

Log file information common to any task type

    • In the Operations table:
      • Document Type Indicates the type of Autodesk Inventor document being migrated.
