• chaingang316Thu May 26, 2011 12:20 amI have installed Autodesk Inventor, but there is no project called tutorial files! Default project and iLogic samples are shown, along with Autoloader and designs. How can i get the tutorial files? Please help. I need to get started asap!

• paulnibleyThu May 26, 2011 5:09 pmThis page does not make any sense. I have downloaded the tutorial_files and extracted them. They are in a folder on my desktop. There were no installation instructions for setting up a tutorials_files project. Following the instructions on this page takes me through steps that don't work because the files are not where I am told to go, and there are no instructions about what to do with the tutorial_files once I have them. I am told later to open the Arbor Press file, but there are many Arbor Press files. This tutorial is very frustrating.

  When you downloaded the tutorial zip file, did you also download the installation instructions? If you didn't, here they are for your convenience:
  
  * Installing Tutorial Files
  
  Download and unzip the Inventor_2012_Tutorial_files.zip file to the following location based on your operating system:
  
  Windows XP:
  Extract the tutorial files to the location where Inventor was installed. The default location is C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Inventor 2012\.
  
  Windows Vista/Win 7:
  Extract the tutorial files to C:\Users\Public\Documents\Autodesk\Inventor 2012\.
  
  After extracting the tutorial files, double-click the tutorial_files.ipj file in the folder to launch Inventor and set the tutorial files project current. The tutorial files are now accessible and ready for use.

I found out where to download the necessary tutoril files from google, but when i came here to type in the answer to my own question, you had already taken care of it!   I've added an image to this page which illustrates what you should see in both panes of the Project Editor. I hope you find it helpful.
  
  Regarding your 'No Browser' message... I'm assuming you're talking about the Model Browser that normally appears at the far left of the Inventor graphics window. Could you have inadvertently turned it off? To turn it back on, click the View tab > Windows panel and activate the Browser check box in the User Interface drop-down menu.

• frankcThu Aug 25, 2011 8:03 amI'm running Inventor Fusion 2012 on Win7 64 bit. I downloaded the files and placed them in the C:\Users\Public\Documents\Autodesk\Inventor 2012\ dir. I double clicked on the tutorial_files.ipj file and I get an error window and ask to pick a program to link to so i linked it to Intentor, now when I click on the file it just opens Inventor. I am not sure what to do at this point. I have tried to open other files, but I get a blank screen. I have never used Inventor and would like to learn more by using the tutorials.

  Are you attempting to use the Inventor tutorial files with Fusion? That cannot be done as the two applications use different file formats.
  
  If, on the other hand, you have Inventor installed then clicking on the tutorial_files.ipj file opens Inventor and simultaneously sets the Tutorial_Files project current. When you click the Open command, you should be seeing the list of Inventor (not Fusion) files in the Tutorial Files folder. Are you not seeing this?
  
  BTW...you need not click the .ipj file again to start Inventor. Once the project is created, it is always accessible.

  Thank you for clarifying that "Inventor Fusion" is not the same as "Inventor"...although I'm not clear what the differences are. I am a Novice AutoCAD user, and our Engineering Manager purchased an installation that included Inventor Fusion, so I was attempting to familiarize myself with it. I, too, was attempting to access Inventor tutorials and couldn't understand why Project Manager was not available from the "I" menu. After spending a number of hours trying to download and install tutorials and help files, (apparently not valid for my Fusion product), I resigned myself to advance through the tutorial...only to find your comment, above.
  
  Since I am not the first to encounter this con"fusion", maybe it makes sense to post a disclaimer on the main Inventor Tutorial page that these tutorials do not apply to the Fusion product.
  
  Could you give a brief explanation of what Fusion is designed to do (as opposed to the standard Inventor)? Are there comparable tutorials for the Fusion product?

  Go to the top of this page. Under the search box, click Home. On the WikiHelp Home page, there is a list of products on the left side. At the bottom of the list is All Products, click that. In the Products list, locate Inventor Fusion. That will take you to the wikiHelp for Fusion where you will find videos and help information.

  To answer your question regarding the differences between Inventor and Fusion…
  
  Parametric modelers like Inventor leverage a history tree in constructing solid models. While this approach works well for the vast majority of modeling tasks, last minute design changes and conceptual work can sometimes be difficult.
  
  The direct modeling approach allows a user to change model geometry/topology without being restricted by a native model's existing parametric and/or history data, or an imported model's lack thereof. This makes direct modeling particularly useful for working with very complex native models or imported models.
  
  Think of Inventor Fusion as a hybrid of both parametric and direct modeling paradigms. While Fusion can certainly be used as a separate solid modeling application, its’ advantages are best realized when used in concert with Inventor (and also AutoCAD).

  I've already dowloaded the files, but when i open them, it says that the File has has an unknown format or that the File is damaged, i've downloaded two times by now... is that a problem with my computer or is it with the link?

  Are you able to open any of the files? Do the files appear with file name extensions like .ipt, .iam, and .idw? What version of Inventor are you running?

  I have Inventor Prof 2012 on Win7 32 bit, i'm able to download the files, i can see the file at the .zip folder, and thre content with the .iam, .idw, .ipn files... but i cannot extract'hem, it says: Unknown format or Damaged files... don't know where/what the problem is....
• ccen3Fri Nov 23, 2012 9:35 amNeed more clear instructions on how to download and open the sample files for 2012 . I've downloaded them and unzipped them , put them in the into the ...Inventor 2012/Samples subdir, but can't see them in the "project browser". I've been mucking around trying to get it to work for over an hour, none of the instructions above seem to work. This page needs to be rewritten with a simple set of guidelines, all in one location (on this page) that works in all situations. Thanks!

  If you follow the instructions at http://www.autodesk.com/inventor-tutorial-data-sets then "tutorial_files" will be listed in the project browser. If not, then you will have to click Browse then navigate to tutorial_files in the location you unzipped the files.
