Set a filter to view only selected standards, manufacturers, or categories. After you switch the filter on, all content not meeting the filter criteria is hidden from the view in the Content Center dialog box.
Use Content Center Favorites to store and access your frequently used categories, families, family members, and features.
Content Center Browser
You can select how Content Center parts are presented in the Content Center browser. Thumbnail view displays a thumbnail image and the Family Name. The list view displays a small thumbnail image and the Family Name. The detail list view displays a table with specified family properties.
You can customize the Detail List view by using the right-click menu or Customize Selection dialog box. Select family properties to display, change the order of properties, and resize the property columns. The following properties can be displayed in the Detail List view:
- Family Name
- Family Description
- Family Standard
- Family Standard Organization
- Source Library where the family is stored
- Link status for copied families
- Name of the parent family for copied families with link
- Name of library where the parent family is stored
- Family Folder Name
- Date and time when family was last modified
Content Center Favorites
Content Center Favorites store frequently used categories, families, family members, and features.
| | Favorite items are organized in folders and included in a Favorites group. You can create new Favorites groups, and define the folder structure within the group. Each Favorites group can include: - Folders
- Part and feature families
- Members of part families (parts)
When you install Autodesk Inventor, the default Favorites group, Content Center, is available in your Favorites panel. The Content Center group includes by default a list of all components available in your Content Center library. Components are organized in folders which correspond to Content Center categories. You can customize the Content Center group. If appropriate, you can create a Favorites group. Then you can copy items from the Content Center group, or add items from the Content Center dialog box. |
Procedures
Use Content Center browser
Use the browsing tools in the Place from Content Center or Content Center Editor dialog box to locate a part or feature family in Content Center.
To customize the browsing environment, select appropriate panels (Tree View, Table View). Then choose the appropriate view (Thumbnail, List, Detailed List) in the View menu or on the toolbar.
The Category View panel displays available categories. When you select a category, its descendent categories or part (feature) families are listed in the Categories and Family Collection panel on the right. You can expand and select categories in the Category View panel. Another method is to double-click the categories on the List panel to display the descendent categories or part (feature) families.
NoteA part (feature) family is a group of parts (features) that use one geometrical model but have different parameters. A category is a logical grouping of part (feature) types.
- If the Category View panel is not displayed, click Tree View on the toolbar.
- To select the viewing mode, click Views on the toolbar, and select a view type from the list. The List View mode is faster, but the Thumbnail View mode is more descriptive.
- Browse in the library until you get to the appropriate part (feature) family:
- Double-click a category to display its descendent categories or families.
- Click Back to return to the previously displayed list.
- Click Forward to display the forward list.
- Click Up one Category to move up one level in the category structure.
- Select the family and perform the appropriate operation.
Tips:
- Customize and use the Detail List view: In the Content Center dialog box, click View
Detail List on the menu. Then right-click a column heading on the Detail List table and click Customize. In the Customize selection dialog box, select family properties to display in Detail List and click OK. - To make the navigation faster and more convenient, add the frequently used parts, features, and part (feature) families to the Favorites list.
- Use Search to find parts that correspond to appropriate parameters.
- Apply a filter to the library to exclude categories, manufacturers, or international standards from the view.
- Content Center Editor only: Click the down-arrow next to Library View to select a library to display (and edit), or to display the Merged View of all libraries.
Use filters in Content Center
You can set a filter to view only selected standards, manufacturers, or categories. After you switch the filter on, all content not meeting the filter criteria is hidden from the view in the Content Center dialog box.
Notes:
- You can choose a predefined filter, or you can define a custom filter.
- The active filter is applied when you use Search.
- Filters can decrease the performance of Content Center.
TipIf you do not want to use a Content Center library, remove the library in the Configure Library dialog box. The library is disconnected, and the performance of Content Center increases.
To switch on a filter

Filters on the menu, and then select an existing filter. - The filter is switched on, and the view is refreshed to display the filtered content.

To switch filters off
| | - On the Content Center Library dialog box, click the down arrow next to Filters, or click Tools
Filters on the menu. Then click the filter with the check mark. - The filter is switched off, and the view is refreshed to display all.

To add a custom filter
- On the Content Center Library dialog box, click the down arrow next to Filters, and select Add/Edit Filters.
- On the Filters dialog box, click Add, and enter a name for the new filter in the text box.
- On the Manufacturers field, select libraries to include in the view.
- On the Standard Organizations field, select standards to include in the view.
- On the Categories tab, expand the category structure and select categories to include in the view.
- Click OK to save changes and close the dialog box, or click Apply to save changes and continue working in the Filters dialog box. After you click OK, the filter selected in the Filters dialog box is automatically switched on.
To edit a filter
- On the Content Center Library dialog box, click the down arrow next to Filters, and select Add/Edit.
- Select the filter you want to modify.
- On the Manufacturers field, select libraries to include in the view.
- On the Standard Organizations field, select standards to include in the view.
- On the Categories tab, expand the category structure and select categories to include in the view.
- Click OK to save changes and close the dialog box, or click Apply to save changes and continue working in the Filters dialog box. After you click OK, the filter selected in the Filters dialog box is automatically switched on.
NoteYou can edit or remove the predefined filters that are provided by default.
To remove a filter
- On the Content Center Library dialog box, click the down arrow next to Filters, and select Add/Edit.
- On the Filters dialog box, select the filter to remove.
- Click Remove.
- Click OK to save changes and close the dialog box, or click Apply to save changes and continue working in the Filters dialog box. After you click OK, the filter selected in the Filters dialog box is automatically switched on.
Use Favorites in Content Center
Content Center Favorites is a place to store and access your frequently used categories, families, family members, and features.
Tips:
To display Favorites in the Place from Content Center or Content Center Editor dialog box, click Favorites.- To display the Favorites panel in the Assembly environment, click the arrow next to the heading of the Browser Bar, and choose Favorites.
- To delete an item from Favorites, right-click the item and select Delete.
- To display another Favorites group, click the arrow next to the name of the current Favorites group and select a group from the list.
- Use the Favorites panel to insert Content Center parts into assemblies without opening the Content Center dialog box. To display the Favorites panel in the assembly environment, click the arrow next to the browser bar heading, and select Favorites. Double-click a family or family member in the Favorites list to place in the assembly. Alternatively, drag the family member and drop it into the graphic window.
To add items to Favorites
Categories, Families, or Members can be added in Favorites.
To add a category to Favorites:
- On the Place from Content Center or Content Center Editor dialog box, find the category to insert in the Favorites list.
- Right-click the category and select Add to Favorites from the menu.
To add a family to Favorites:
- On the Place from Content Center or Content Center Editor dialog box, find the family to insert in the Favorites list.
- Right-click the family and select Add to Favorites from the menu.
To add a particular member (part) to Favorites:
- On the Place from Content Center, find the family to insert its member to Favorites.
- Unselect AutoDrop on the toolbar and double-click the family to display the Family dialog box.
- On the Select tab, select a family member and right-click.
- Click Add to Favorites from the menu.
- Click Cancel to close the Family dialog box.
Tips:
- You can drag and drop families or categories to Favorites in the Place from Content Center or Content Center Editor dialog box.
- To add a family to a specific folder in Favorites, select the folder before you choose Add to Favorites.
To copy, move, or delete items in Favorites
To move an item:
- Right-click the item (folder, family, or member) in the Favorites list and choose Cut from the menu.
- Select the destination folder, right-click, and choose Paste from the menu. To paste the item at the first level of the Favorites structure, right-click at the blank space of the Favorites panel.
TipUse drag and drop functionality to move items in a Favorites group.
To copy an item:
- Right-click the item (folder, family, or member) in the Favorites list, and choose Copy from the menu. If needed, you can copy also between two Favorites groups.
- Select the destination folder, right-click, and choose Paste from the menu. To paste the item at the first level of the Favorites structure, right-click at the blank space of the Favorites panel.
To delete an item:
Remove Favorites items that are no longer needed. Right-click the item (folder, family, or member) in the Favorites list and select Delete from the menu.
To organize Favorites in groups and folders
You can create new Favorites groups. Create folders in a Favorites group, and insert parts, features, and part (feature) families into folders.
To create a Favorites Group
- Click the down-arrow next to the name of the current Favorites group and select Add New Favorites Group.
- On the New Favorites Group dialog box, enter the name of the new group and click OK.
TipTo switch between Favorites groups, click the down-arrow next to the name of the current Favorites group, and select a group from the list.
To create a folder
- Right-click in the Favorites window or on a Favorites folder and select New Folder from the menu.
- Enter the name of the folder and click OK.
To place a Content Center member from the Favorites list
- Open an assembly.
- Display the Favorites panel in the Place from Content Center dialog box or in the Assembly environment.
NoteTo display Favorites in the Place from Content Center or Content Center Editor dialog box, click Favorites on the toolbar. To display the Favorites panel in the Assembly environment, click the arrow next to the heading of the Browser Bar, and choose Favorites.
- Locate and double-click the family or member to place in the assembly.

Content Center Filters
You can set a filter to view only selected standards, manufacturers, or categories. After you switch the filter on, all content not meeting the filter criteria is hidden from the view in the Content Center dialog box.
You can choose a predefined filter, or you can define a custom filter.
The following predefined filters are provided by default: ANSI, BSI, GB, GOST, ISO, DIN, and Parker. These filters can be modified or removed.
Access: | In the Content Center dialog box, click the down arrow next to Filters , or click Tools Filters on the menu, and then select Add/Edit Filters. |
Filter Group Name | Displays a list of existing filters. |
Add | Adds a new filter. |
Remove | Removes the selected filter. |
Standard Tab | Manufacturers displays all manufacturers included in the currently connected libraries. Select manufacturers you want to include in the view. Standard Organizations displays all standards included in the currently connected libraries. Select standards to include in the view. |
Categories Tab | Displays all categories included in the currently connected libraries. Expand the category structure and select categories to include in the view. |
Customize Selection
Use the Customize Selection dialog box to select or reorder properties displayed in the Detail List view.
Access: | In the Content Center dialog box, click View > Detail List on the menu. Then right-click a column heading on the Detail List table and click Customize. |
Properties list | Lists family properties that can be displayed in the Detail List view. Select a property to display it in the view. Clear the check box to remove a property from the view. |
Move Up | Moves the selected property up in the list. Moves the corresponding column to the left in the Detail List view. |
Move Down | Moves the selected property down in the list. Moves the corresponding column to the right in the Detail List view. |
