    Use the Drawing Resource Transfer Wizard to copy drawing resources such as borders, title blocks, and sketched symbols from a source drawing to one or more target drawings.

    Procedures

    Transfer drawing resources to a new drawing

    Use the Drawing Resource Transfer Wizard to copy drawing resources such as borders, title blocks, and sketched symbols from a source drawing to one or more target drawings. You must close Autodesk Inventor before you can use the wizard.

    1. Click Start menu Programs Autodesk Autodesk Inventor [version] Tools Drawing Resource Transfer Wizard.
    2. Click Next to start the wizard and open the Select Source Drawing dialog box.
    3. Navigate to the source drawing and click Open.
    4. A preview and drawing resources of the source drawing are shown. Accept the selected resources to transfer or clear the check mark to skip.
    5. Click Next to open the Select Target Drawings dialog box. Navigate to the target drawing and click Open. To add more target drawings, click the folder and navigate to a new drawing.

      If appropriate, clear check marks from targeted drawings to remove from processing.

    6. Click Next, and then specify what to do if drawing resources have the same name in both source and target files.
      • Click Yes to replace resources in the target file with resources in the source file.
      • Click No to assign unique names to copied resources from the source file. The target file resources retain their original names.
    7. Click Pause to halt processing temporarily. Click Resume to continue.
    8. A log reports the results of the transfer. Click Exit to close the dialog box.

    Drawing Resource Transfer Wizard

    The Drawing Resource Transfer Wizard is a command that copies drawing resources from a source drawing to a target drawing. Close Autodesk Inventor before you can use the wizard. Use the Drawing Resource Transfer Wizard to:

    • Transfer selected title blocks, borders, and sketched symbols to multiple drawings.
    • Optionally replace existing resources in the target drawing.

    Access:

    Click Start menu Programs Autodesk Autodesk Inventor [version] Tools Drawing Resource Transfer Wizard.

    Welcome page Describes the Drawing Resource Transfer Wizard processes.

    Select Source Drawing and Resources page Selects the source drawing, shows a preview image, and lists drawing resources.

    Source Drawing selects files to process in a detailed view.

    Preview, if available, shows a thumbnail view of the source drawing.

    Source Resource shows the drawing resources hierarchy.

    Select Target Drawings page Selects the target drawing or multiple drawings. Navigate to the appropriate folder.

     

    Add drawings opens the Select Target Drawings so you can browse to the desired folder to select one or more target drawings.

    A target drawing can be listed only once. Click the File or Path column name to sort files.

     

     

    Skipped Files dialog box opens if a target file:

    • Is the same as the source drawing.
    • Is already listed.
    • Is read-only.
    • Has not been migrated to the current version of Autodesk Inventor.
     

     

    Next progresses to the next page when one or more target drawing is specified.

    Select Option page Specifies how to handle drawing resources in the target file that have the same name as drawing resources in the source file.

    Yes replaces drawing resources in the target file with the same name as resources in the source file.

    No gives a unique name to target drawing resources that have the same name as those in the source file. The copied resource is named Copy of ResourceName. The target drawing version retains its original name.

    Begin the Batch Processing page Shows progress of transferred selected borders, title blocks, and sketched symbols.

    Start begins processing of selected files.

    Pause temporarily halts transferring resources.

    Cancel halts processing.

    Results of the processing are shown in a log file.
