What's new in Inventor Fusion?

    Inventor Fusion 2013

    Sketch

Spline does not terminate when an existing sketch point is selected.

Click and drag a sketch circle to resize it.

Simplified sketch grid contextual glyph menu.

Dragging multiple sketch objects now will snap to other sketch points.

Shift-select allows window select of profiles.

Contextual command menu for selected sketch objects.

    Modeling

Mirror and pattern support the creation of new components.

You can revolve about an axis that is selected as part of the profile.

Sweep profiles and the path can be from different components.

Shell a solid without selecting a face to remove.

Split command uses the selected object to automatically determine whether you are splitting a face or a body. The in canvas glyph has been removed.

Split command allows you to select solid faces as the split tool.

Edit Edge command allows you to G2 Blend or Combine two edges.

The edges of surfaces can be used with the Assign Symmetry command.

New Insert Edge command allows you to insert an edge into an existing face.

New Planarize Edge command aligns the selected edge to a selected plane.

Any edge can be selected to create a surface patch.

New Fluid Volume command creates internal volumes or external volumes around existing model.

You can turn on/off the preview in the Simplify command.

    Assemblies

When using the Move command to position components, you can reorient the triad to a vertex then move the component to other component vertices. This point-to-point workflow is similar to the AutoCAD move command.

You can insert a Fusion DWG into another Fusion DWG and maintain the hierarchy; this does not create a link or x-ref to the original DWG.

New Interference command displays the interferences between selected components or the entire assembly. There is an option to keep the interfering volumes as new components.

    Work Geometry

A circular edge can be used to create a work axis. The work axis is created through the center of the circular edge.

A linear edge can be selected when creating a work plane by point and axis.

    Add-ins

The AutoCAD add-in and the Inventor add-in will use the open Fusion session.

The AutoCAD add-in offers an accept or deny dialog on return to AutoCAD.

The AutoCAD add-in allows users to edit blocks created by opening Fusion DWG files or DWG files with 3D data in blocks resulting from AutoCAD's native 3D translators.

Inventor displays a dialog before launching Edit Form in Fusion.

    New Autodesk Simulation CFD add-in.

New Autodesk Simulation WS product line add-ins.

    Graphics

    Improved wireframe visual style.

There is an "Exit Free Orbit" context menu item when the Orbit command is active.

Option to disable dropping of visual effects during modeling and view navigation. This option is available at View > Visual Styles > Effects > Adaptive Performance.

Option to enable alternate zoom direction (allows Fusion to zoom like AutoCAD). This options is available at View > User Interface > Alternate Zoom Direction.

Option to enable software rendering. To access this option, go to the Application Menu and click the Options button.

The Slice Graphics command is replaced with the Section command. The section view is dynamically previewed while you drag the section plane.

    New Zebra Analysis command.

    User Interface

    Support for Ribbon themes.

When an object is selected, the parents are highlighted in the browser.

You can turn on/off the display of features in the browser.

    Translators

    SketchUp import

    OBJ import

    NX import

Improved import of SolidWorks files that contain configurations

    Other

A warning is displayed when an AutoCAD DWG file is opened. The dialog warns the user that a copy is being made and objects Inventor Fusion does not support will be removed.

ESC key now exits browser menus

New select other option to chain select tangent contiguous edges. It can be found in the "Neighbor" group of select other tools.

    Sketch

    Persistent sketch constraints and dimensions.

    • Add and remove constraints on a sketch.
    • Constraints display on the sketch.
    • Turn off the display of constraints with a status bar button.
    • Pin dimensions and create new dimensions

Sketches burn thru the model making it easier to work with sketch geometry "inside" solids.

Reorient a sketch to change its origin and rotation.

Place an image in a sketch.

    • Control scale, rotation, and position on placement.
    • Knock out the background for images without alpha transparency support.
    • Toggle image overall opaqueness and calibrate the image by selecting two points to set a precise model unit size.
    • If SketchBook Designer is installed on the same machine, edit the image in sketch book and return to Fusion to see the changes (curves not supported).
    • Update the image manually in case the image was modified in an external application.

    Modeling

Validate command for imported solids and surfaces.

    • Repair common surface errors automatically.
    • Set a tolerance and the level of check to perform.

Surface groups in the browser now show an "Unstitched" group to more clearly represent the loose surfaces in a group.

Freeform modeling commands. Formerly know as Alias Design for Inventor.

    • Edit edge
    • Symmetry definition
    • Straighten edge
    • Shape mode and interpolation mode
    • Toggle symmetry and edge locking from status bar buttons
    • Toggle curvature comb display for modified edges

    Partial reblend support.

    • When editing a model with blends, some blends fail. Fusion fails only the blends with issues> Other valid blends continue to update. You can finish the command allowing only some of the original blends to be maintained.

When creating a surface, you can create a component to contain the surface.

You can move and rotate sketches using the modeling Move command.

When creating a circular array of components, control component orientation.

When creating a tangent work plane, align it to a face or edge, or define a set angle from the pick location.

Scale command that can scale bodies, surfaces, sketches, and components.

Primitive commands including box, sphere, torus, and cylinder.

Sculpt command to modify solids using surface objects.

    Other

In canvas glyph appearance is more consistent with Autodesk Inventor.

    Assemble command supports work points.

New "recover" command in the application menu allows you to recover data from Fusion files if they crash on open, like the Audit command in AutoCAD.

ShowMotion dialog box and ShowMotion data storage are improved.

Copy paste of surfaces and components uses a triad for precision placement.

Marking menu and context menu are improved.

    Ribbon UI is improved.
