- On the Properties palette, click
Edit Type. - In the Type Properties dialog, for Type, select a different railing type.
To change the railing type from a project view
- Select the railing in the project view.
- In the Type Selector, select the desired railing type from the drop-down.

- Why can I not use a solid wall for the railing? The only choice is pipe or rectangular. How do I change the railing to SOLID...with some width.
- To get a solid railing, open the type properties for the railing system. Duplicate the type, and for Rail Structure, click Edit. In the Edit Rails dialog, delete the balusters and posts. Note the Height value for the Rail.
Next, modify the profile family for the rail and set the Height value to be the same as the rail height. This will produce a solid railing. See the attached image for clarification. A similar procedure is documented for Revit 2013, but this procedure modifies the continuous rail profile (new to 2013). See Creating a Solid Railing.
