Several view templates are provided with Revit, or you can create your own based on these. View templates can be transferred from one project to another.
BrianCobb4461Tue Dec 6, 2011 2:34 pmI have a question about View Templates. I'm in Revit Structure 2012 and I'm trying to make it so that when I cut a new Wall Section or Building Section View, it defaults to 3/4" Scale and Fine Detail Level. I have gone through the procedure of cutting a section, Apply View Template, selecting Structural Section, and then checking the box for all future views, then hitting OK. Then when I cut a new section, the Detail Level is Fine, but the Scale is still 1/8. Is this happening to anyone else?
Also, is it possible to set the default Far Clip Offset to something other than 10'? And is it possible to set the default Crop Region Visible to Off?
Thank you for asking these questions. I'm looking into them and will respond as soon as I can give you the answers.
You can set the Crop Region Visible to hide. It is covered in this topic:

loboarchThu Dec 8, 2011 8:29 amWhen you set a view template to automaticaly be applied to new views of the same type view scale is not a setting that assigned as the view is created. The view scale of the new view is set from the options bar as you place the view marker. Once the view is created then the scale value in the view template can be applied to the view by "reaplying" the view template to the view. At this point the scale set in the view template would be used.
The far clip offset of the view is set at the system level. It is loosely based on the distance of the line drawn when placing the view marker.
Crop region can't be automatically be set to off. It has to be turned off manually after the view is created.

michaelburke1114Wed Dec 14, 2011 8:19 amWhy isn't the view scale controlled by the view template? That's the reason to have templates. My 2cents worth.
loboarchWed Dec 14, 2011 11:05 amThe view scale is controled by the template, just not at the time of view creation. It only controls scale after the view already exists. This feedback has been brought up to the Revit tem so it can be considered as Revit is developed.

rplastinaSun Jul 15, 2012 11:12 pmIs it possible also in Revit to set the cropping and save it as a view template?
loboarchMon Jul 16, 2012 4:44 amThe cropping of a view is not able to be controled via a view template.
