Use the Family Editor to make changes to existing families or to create new families. The method you use for opening the Family Editor depends on what you want to do.
You use the Family Editor to create and edit loadable families and in-place elements. The tabs and panels change depending on the type of family that you are editing. You do not use the Family Editor to edit system families.
To edit a family from a project
Do one of the following:
Double-click an instance of the family in the drawing area.
Select an instance of the family in the drawing area, and click Modify | <Element> tabMode panel (Edit Family).
In the Project Browser, right-click the family and click Edit.
To edit a loadable family outside a project
Browse to the file containing the family, and click Open.
sshradarFri Nov 30, 2012 9:44 amI would like to know how to turn off the double click feature to edit families. Every time I edit a tag - which requires clicking twice on the annotation of the tag - I accidentally open the tag family instead. This is driving me crazy!
lisa49annFri Nov 30, 2012 10:10 amYou cannot disable the double-click behavior in Revit 2013. I will tell you that our development team is aware that many users have requested to have this behavior optional in a future release.
