Including Custom Revit.ini Settings in a Deployment

Prior to deployment, Autodesk recommends that you first configure Revit on a stand-alone installment. This way, the Revit.ini file contains all the preferred user settings and keys, and does not need to be manually edited. Once Revit is configured, you copy the Revit.ini file and use it for the deployment.

Run Revit and adjust the options and settings to match the desired setup.
Make a copy of the Revit.ini located in the user profile folder usually located here:“C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Autodesk\Revit\Autodesk Revit Architecture 2013”.

Note: The Revit.ini copy is accessed later in this process.
Run Setup.exe and choose Create Deployment.
Specify the name and location for the deployment, and select Next.
Review and accept the license agreement, and select Next.
Enter the serial number and licensing preferences, and select Next.
Select the triangular control to expand the panel.
Configure Revit.
Under Customize Application Settings, choose Custom Revit.ini.
Browse to the Revit.ini copy you created and select Import.
Continue to customize the deployment as desired.

Note: Some options may no longer be available because you are using the custom Revit.ini file.
Select the up arrow to close and return to the product list.
Select Create to finish creating the deployment.

WJohnPowellMon Aug 6, 2012 1:11 pmAm I correct in assuming that when the Revit Deployment is installed on an individual's computer using this custom Revit.ini file that the username will be changed to match the Windows Operating System username when a user launches Revit for the first time?

Is it possible to include custom UIState.dat and KeyboardShortcuts.xml in Revit 2013 deployment packages?
pattygaleTue Aug 7, 2012 6:07 amYes, when the user launches Revit for the first time, the user name is changed to match his/her Windows Operating System username.

And yes, you can include custom UIState.dat and KeyboardShortcuts.xml files in deployments. When creating the deployment, on the Create Deployment > Configuration page, click Revit to open the configuration panel. Specify the custom files in the Additional Files section of the panel.

jjacksonThu Nov 15, 2012 2:43 pmWhere are we supposed to stick the keyboard shortcuts in additional files? the import instructions from the wiki say the file goes in this location "%APPDATA%\Autodesk\Revit\", but the additional files will not let you specify environmental variables.

After you make changes to keyboard shortcuts in Revit, the keyboardshortcuts.txt file resides in the same folder as your Revit.ini file: C:\Users\*username*\AppData\Roaming\Autodesk\Revit\Autodesk Revit Architecture 2013

jjacksonFri Nov 16, 2012 9:37 amYeah, Patty my question is about the deployment modifications screen, under additional files how do i enter that file path? When i added the folder structure using %username% it just made a folder under users for %username%. So the installer is not accepting the windows environmental variable.
jim.summersFri Nov 23, 2012 8:56 pmAre there certain key sections, keys, and values that must be part of an imported Revit.ini file? We imported a relatively simple Revit.ini file into an installation package and, while it tested successfully, we experienced a high percentage of installs that were missing both the identity.ini & license.ini and a smaller percentage missing the userdatacache revit.ini. Whatever the cause, Revit's installation never issued an error and the deployment package (SCCM) deemed the install successful - despite the fact that Revit will not open without identity or licence.ini.
DannyHubbardMon Nov 26, 2012 10:41 amWhen you add a custom Revit.ini to your deployment, upon completing the configuration of your deployment the Revit.ini is verified to make sure it is valid. If you are missing information the installer wants like the ProjectPath it will give you an error and will not let you proceed with the deployment creation.
With the missing identity.ini or license.ini you would have to look at the Revit install log files on the client machines to see what these files weren't copied, more than likely some type of permissions issue. Since you installed using SCCM the log files will all be in the C:\Windows\Temp folder.
