Enable Navisworks Switchback in Revit

In previous version, you export Revit model to nwc file and open it in Navisworks to do the clash detect. Once you find the interferenced elements in Navisworks, generally, you will check the element ID, and then go back to Revit, and use Select By ID function to find the element, it is very time consuming, and sometimes, you can’t find the correct element with the ID.

Now in Revit 2012, it is much easier.

In Revit, Click Add-Ins tab>External Tools> Navisworks SwitchBack
In Navisworks, highlight and right click the element, select “SwitchBack”
In Revit, you will see the element is selected.
If there is warning “no good view could be found”, go back to Navisworks, select the item node in Selection Tree, right click and select “SwitchBack”.

carlos.gonzalezWed Sep 26, 2012 5:20 pmthis tip came in handy on my nwf.....however I noticed that it does not work on a DWF file thats being viewed with Navisworks Simulate. the switchback option is availble on the menu but an error message displays stating that it does not support DWF file type. Is there an effort to add this feature in the future?
andrew.healeyFri Sep 28, 2012 1:34 amThe Switchback tool is designed for use with native files, so that's the DWG for AutoCAD based applications, and RVT (or the exported NWC) for Revit.

DWF files can originate from many applications - as they don't have a native application then switchback is not an available option for them.
