While not an ideal solution, you could create a detail component to overlay the insulation. That detail component could then be keynoted. Hello.
To remove parts to expose the existing element, select a part and press Delete. A Revit warning is diplayed stating "Edits to the model will cause some Parts to be deleted." Click Delete Element(s) in the warning dialog to remove all parts. This process can restore a divided part in the same way. Hope this helps.
