Karen:
Thanks for the reply. The videos go by too quickly, and pausing/rewinding them is highly annoying. Plus looking at a video in an area the size of a cell phone screen is silly. Even if I go full screen with the videos, they are not that easy to watch for this kind of subject matter. I have a 30" monitor for my main graphics, a 21" monitor for menus, etc, and a third 21" monitor for help screens. I have the 21" monitors in portrait mode because of desktop constraints. I have no more video out ports on my graphics card.
And yes, getting rid of the step by step tutorials is a huge BACKWARDS step. Autodesk software is a complicated group of products that can't be crammed into one's mind via a few short MTV style set of video clips. This is even more so now that Autodesk is shoving suites down every subscribers' throats. One can't remember each and every package they use, especially when there are enough differences between how each product works.
I found the 2010 Getting Started Guide tutorial in PDF format, which is great...except Autodesk changed the user interface...AGAIN! So although the process is overall the same, the hunting and pecking for changes between the user interfaces is once again...highly annoying. I will snag the any other PDF's and files at the link you kindly provided above.
I like videos as an adjunct to the written word, not a replacement for it!
Oh, and it would be nice if there was a check box to subscribe to a feed and get notification via email of a reply. I find RSS feeds sometimes work, and sometimes don't. Check out any number of forums hosted with the VBulletin brand of software.
I hear Carl Bartz is looking for work. Maybe she can get back on with Autodesk and start out as a novice technical writer.
