On the Properties palette, click the Color Scheme parameter; or to apply a system color scheme, click the Edit button for the System Color Scheme parameter, and then, in the Color Schemes dialog, click the button in the Color scheme column for the desired category.
In the Edit Color Scheme dialog, under Schemes, select a category and color scheme.
On the Properties palette, for Color Scheme Location, select one of the following values:
Background: Applies the color scheme to the background of the view only. For example, in a floor plan view, it applies the color scheme to the floor only. In a section view, it applies the color scheme to the background walls or surfaces only. The color scheme is not applied to foreground elements in the view.
Foreground: Applies the color scheme to all model elements in the view.
mark.silcockTue Jul 26, 2011 9:48 pmIn Revit MEP 2012, the list of categories in the edit color scheme dialog box is different between clicking the color schemes button on the architect tab, and clicking the colour scheme button on the view property button. MEP related color schemes I have created do not show when clicking the edit button on the properties.
richard.jacunskiWed Jul 27, 2011 7:22 amThank you for alerting us to this documentation deficiency, which has been corrected above. If the color schemes you created were system color schemes, they will not display in the Edit Color Schemes dialog when it is accessed from the Color Schemes parameter; instead, click the Edit button for the System Color Schemes parameter (located immediately below the Color Schemes parameter); then, in the Color Schemes dialog, click the button for the desired category to display the Edit Color Schemes dialog listing the schemes for that category. If this does not solve your problem, please contact me directly.

debbieFri Jul 29, 2011 2:30 pmI just upgraded form 2011 to 2012. In 2011 the color scheme location is defalut in the background. I cannot seem to change the color scheme location form the foreground t othe background in 2012 even though the COlor Scheme Location in the properties box says "background". thank you
richard.jacunskiMon Aug 15, 2011 7:44 amMy subject matter expert tells me you seem to be using the correct mechanism, but that there have been problems reported with background/foreground positioning for 2012. He did not know whether these issues would be resolved in the next update release, but suggested that it might be a file-specific problem and that your best bet would be to contact product support through your subscription service.
