Loading Families

No headers

When you load families into a project, the Revit imperial or metric family library (located in C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\<product and release>\Libraries\US Imperial or US Metric) is accessed by default.

If your office is using a different library of content in another location, your system may access that library by default. Contact your CAD Manager for more information.

Use the following procedure to load families. For more information about loadable families, see The Families Guide.

To load families

Click Insert tabLoad from Library panel (Load Family).
Depending on the current drawing units (imperial or metric), the Load Family dialog lists the family categories in either the Imperial or Metric Library.
In the Load Family dialog, double-click the category of the family that you want to load.
Preview any of the families (RFA) in the category:
- To preview a single family, select it from the list.
  At the top right of the dialog, under Preview, a thumbnail image of the family displays.
- To display a thumbnail image in the list for all families in the category, at the top right corner of the dialog, click ViewsThumbnails.
Select the family that you want to load, and click Open.
The family type is now available to place in the project. It displays in the appropriate component category under Families in the Project Browser.

I do all these steps. but in my Revit 2012 i don't have any kind of libraries on my pc. I have an educational license of Revit.

loboarchWed May 18, 2011 5:38 amIf you are not seeing any libraries at the path listed above then the install was not completed correctly. During the install content is downloaded and placed into these library locations. You should try re-installing Revit and be sure you have a connection to the internet during the entire installation process. If you continue to have problems with the installation you can post the issue to our discussion forums:

myovanoffWed Aug 31, 2011 10:04 amI can go through every step up to the last one, but the family is NOT available to place in the project--It shows up in my project browser but not in my drop down button for doors under properties--what am I doing wrong?
