From the Media panel you manage the media in your current project. Any media listed in the Media panel is saved inside the project.

    The Media panel displays:

    • Project Name: The name of your current project is displayed at the top of the Media panel.
    • Workspace Name: The name of your current workspace is displayed at the top of the Media panel, to the right of the project name, if there are multiple workspaces available for that project..
    • Batch Sources: Any media used in Batch is displayed in the Media panel under Batch Sources. You can drag media from any folder in the Media Library to the Batch Sources folder in the Media panel. This places a copy of the media in the Batch Sources folder and displays it in Batch. Dragging media directly from the Media panel to the Batch schematic also creates a copy of the media in the Batch Sources folder.
    • Desktop Reels: Your Desktop Reels are displayed in the Media panel. You can create as many Desktop Reels as you like. You can drag a folder from the Media Library to the Desktop section of the Media panel and convert it to a reel and vice versa. Up to six reels can be simultaneously active in the Viewing panel.
TipYou can locate and center a clip on its Desktop reel by highlighting it in the Media panel and selecting Go To Clip, from the contextual menu. This makes it easier to manage your media on reels containing a lot of clips.
    • Media Library :
      • Libraries: All media and folders reside in a Library. You can create as many Libraries as you want, enabling you to better organize your project media. Libraries can be opened and closed, from the contextual menu. Closing a Library releases it from memory and blocks access the contained media. This can be useful when you have large projects which use a lot of media.
      • Folders: Within Libraries, you can create folders to organize your media. You can create as many folders as you want. Folders can be expanded and collapsed in the Media panel.
NoteYou can expand or collapse all folders and sub folders within a library by holding down the Alt key and clicking on the arrow to the left of the library / folder.
      • Source Clips: A source clip has only one video segment. It contains no edits and all its audio segments have the same tape name, source timecode and duration as the video.
      • Sequences: A sequence is an edited clip. It contains multiple sources.
      • Effect Clips: An effect clip is a metadata-only clip. You can use this type of clip to copy timeline effects from one clip to another.
NoteYou can protect clips in the Media Library from Editing, by enabling the Protect from Editing button under the General tab in the Preferences. When this preference is enabled, the following operations cannot be performed on clips in the Media Library:
      • Editing of a source clip (Trim, Slip, Cut, etc.).
      • Operations on Timeline FX (Add, Delete, Modify, etc.).
      • Operations on BFX.
      • Opening a clip as a sequence.

Clips on the Desktop and in the Batch Sources area can still be edited with the Protect from Editing preference enabled.

    • Desktop Snapshots: You can save multiple Desktops to this section of the Media panel and restore them. When you restore a Desktop, you restore all the settings and media associated with the Desktop. When you restore a Desktop snapshot, you have the option of either replacing the current Desktop or appending the restored Desktop to the current Desktop.
NoteWhen you have saved a Desktop Snapshot and that you modify it, an asterisk appears next to it in the Media panel, informing you that the snapshot has changed. To keep the changes, save the Desktop Snapshot again. See Saving and Restoring Desktops.
    • Batch Snapshots: You can save multiple Batch snapshots to this section of the Media panel and restore them. A saved Batch snapshot contains all the nodes, settings and media associated with the Batch schematic. When you restore a Batch snapshot, you have the option of either replacing the current Batch tree or appending the restored Batch snapshot to the current Batch tree.
NoteWhen you have saved a Batch Snapshot and that you modify it, an asterisk appears in the Batch Sources section of the Media panel, informing you that the snapshot has changed. To keep the changes, save the Batch Snapshot again.
    • Shared Libraries: You can drag clips and folders from the Media Library to the Shared Libraries section of the Media panel to make the content available to other Creative and Finishing applications running on your network. From the contextual menu, you can enable and disable write access to the Shared Libraries.
    • Search Results: Search results are displayed in alphabetical order in the Media panel. The search results list is always the last entry in the Workspace Media panel.
