Here are some answers to frequently asked questions regarding Project Vasari.

    Is Vasari Free?

Yes! Vasari is a beta version. Please refer to the End User License Agreement that appears on first starting the application for more information on technology previews and terms of use.

How long will Vasari be available to use?

Vasari 2.5 will be available to use until August 31, 2012. Vasari Beta 1 will be available to use until January 31, 2013.

Who is Vasari intended to be used by?

We think Vasari is a great tool for use in the early design stages of architectural design projects. So far, architectural designers and architectural students have been using early versions. But really, anyone interested in 3D parametric modeling and looking for ways to understand 'performance-based design' is welcome to download and try it out.

How is Vasari related to Revit?

Vasari Beta 1 is based on the Revit 2013 code base, but highlights the Conceptual Design environment and various other features. It also encompasses some changes to the user interface. Detailed BIM modeling tools have been removed.

Can I open Revit 2013 files in Vasari Beta 1?

Yes, but some features (detailed model elements such as walls, windows, doors, etc.) are not supported.

Can I open Vasari Beta 1 files in Revit 2013?

Yes. Vasari is intended as an "on ramp" for Revit. Conceptual models created in any version of Vasari can be opened in Revit 2013 and used to make more detailed models.

How can I give feedback to the Vasari team?

We definitely want to hear from you! Send us an email to vasari@autodesk.com or visit the Project Vasari community pages.

How can I share models and images with others?

We definitely want to see what you are designing! Please post images on the Project Vasari community pages and share tips and tricks with others using the discussion forum.

    What does "Vasari" mean?

Giorgio Vasari (1511 - 1574) was an Italian painter, writer, historian, and architect.

How does the portable executable of Vasari work?

Spoon virtualization is a technology that packages an application and the applications pre-requisites into a single executable, allowing users to download and run a single file instead of downloading and running an installer. When the user runs a spoon executable, the application is run in an isolated environment that has controlled access to the operating system

Why can't I see the Nucleus tab?

The Nucleus tab only appears while you are editing a loadable family (RFA file) as opposed to being in a project (RVT file). In Vasari, click New Family. Select the Mass.rft template. Now you will see the Nucleus tab on the ribbon.

Is there an API available for Vasari?

Yes! Tools available in Vasari are available in the Vasari API

Where can I find more details about the assumptions used to simulate energy performance?

Vasari WikiHelp on Autodesk 360 Energy Analysis contains detailed information on energy model settings. More information on energy model simulation can be found on the Autodesk Green Building studio web site.

What is the difference between detach and disable worksets?

Detach creates an independent file and prohibits saving changes back to the original central file while workset designations are preserved. Disable completely removes workset designations

What happened to Planar Solar Radiation?

We removed planar solar radiation in Vasari 2.0 because much of the functionality can be achieved with the Solar Radiation tool. Let us know if you miss it.

Can I get accurate wind tunnel analysis results by using 2D alone?

2D analysis results are accurate for the 2D cutting plane only and do not take into account the entire 3D space. Therefore, 2D analysis should only be used as a first step in your analysis.

Is there any way to save the wind tunnel inputs or outputs?

Inputs or outputs can not be saved through the wind tunnel application at this time. We suggest using screen capture software to capture images or create videos.

In the wind tunnel tool, can I measure how much flow moves through an opening?

You can map the colors on the 2D data slice and the flow lines to the wind speed that appears on the color range legend.

How do I know when a wind tunnel analysis is done?

2D analysis results are almost immediate. During a 3D analysis, a progress bar indicates when the 3D voxels have been initialized. After that, the time for a simulation to converge on a steady solution varies widely depending on the size and complexity of the model.
